Today’s course
Starting from Aoyama 1-chome Station, walk to the Foreign Cemetery in the Aoyama Cemetery. The course is a 15-minute walk. (April 2022)

Aoyama Park North District
There are two Aoyama Parks, one in the north and one in the south, separated from each other. This park is the Aoyama Park North area. There are large trees and grassy plaza.

Ryusenji Temple
Ryusenji Temple is said to be named after the eldest son of Tokugawa Ieyasu during the Edo period. This temple was once located in Akasaka. It was moved here after a fire in 1887. The red gate is a distinctive feature of the temple.

Aoyama Cemetery is operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. This cemetery is one of the top famous cemeteries in Japan. It is also known for the many graves of famous people. It is open to all denominations.

Akasaka Fire Station
This fire station protects this area from fires, and by 2020 has achieved 30 years of zero fatalities due to fires.
Foreign Cemetery
These are the graves of foreigners who died in Japan in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Those laid to rest include doctors, engineers, diplomats, and artists. They came to Japan to represent their country and played a major role in the modernization of Japan. The Foreign National Cemetery has been managed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government since 2006.
