A Japanese confectionery with a name that sounds like a joke. It is “Seppuku Monaka,” a famous “souvenir to take to apologize for committing seppuku.” Shinshodou is a long-established Japanese confectionery store that opened in 1912. It was developed by the previous third president. It is said to sell well at the end of the year when “Chushingura,” a story created in the Edo period in which seppuku (ritual suicide) is featured, becomes a hot topic.
